Core Goals
Massage is designated time for specific support of YOU and your body. Our first core goal is that you feel supported, safe, and respected. You are the world’s leading expert on living in your body so we always check in with your goals, expectations, and current health considerations going into each session. Whether your goal is regulation of stress, relief of tension & discomfort, recovery after injury or major life change, massage serves as an opportunity for the facilitation of peace with and access to your body’s natural rhythms of healing. We prioritize our next core goal of creating the most effective and personalized experience by incorporating additional tools like hot and cool stones, CBD therapy, cupping, facilitated stretching, aromatherapy, sound therapy, etc. We believe this goal of personalized care should not be something you pay extra for. Session price is based on TIME with no fee for “add ons” so we can use these tools based on therapeutic benefit and client comfort.

Deep tissue massage focuses on targeting chronic tension in deeper layers of muscles and tissues through direct pressure, cross fiber friction, and slow sustained strokes. It serves the goal of breaking down adhesions that cause pain, inhibited circulation, or range of motion. Deep tissue may use some of the same techniques as swedish massage but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain. For this reason, deep tissue massage is best for addressing a specific problem.
Benefits of deep tissue massage: Break up adhesions and stimulate change in chronically tight tissues including scar tissue.
Recommended for: those who want relief for specific issues; alternating relaxation and deep tissue sessions is advised.
Swedish massage is characterized by long, flowing strokes as well as connective kneading, rolling, cross fiber friction, rhythmic tapping, or vibration of tissue. Swedish massage techniques can be implemented atany range of pressure, but maintains a quality of flow while connecting with the tissue superficially before working deeper, then back to superficial before moving on. This not only serves to support the nervous system and provide a deeply relaxing effect, but is also extremely valuable when gauging tissue mobility and tenderness for more effective therapeutic impact.
Benefits of Swedish massage include: Relaxation/stress reduction, pain management; improved circulation, sleep quality, immune support; reduction of inflammation and improvement of mood and mental clarity.
Recommended for: Anyone living high stress life, experiencing major life changes, or experiencing postural pains and discomforts.
Trigger points are hyper-irritable spots in a tight band of muscle; they are ischemic (cut off from blood supply) and often cause local and referred sensation/pain patterns, ie. when you press on a spot on arm, you feel it up in your neck. Trigger points are essentially the center of a major muscle knot that has become extra sensitive because of overuse, misuse, stress or duress. Focusing on relieving trigger points can be done with a number of manual therapy techniques and is helpful long term in reduction of pain.
Cupping is an ancient, traditional method used to stimulate the body’s healing processes, to stretch and soften connective tissue, and to target adhesions through decompressive force (suction). There are many types of cups with different application styles, but here at MVP we use plastic and silicone cups both statically (stationary placement) and migrating/running (moving across skin).
Benefits of cupping: Increased circulation to area, increased pliability of fascia and stimulation of fascial pathway, which may increase range of motion and decrease in tension and discomfort in chronically tight muscles. There is often and increased ability to work deeper in an area after it has been cupped.
Risks and considerations: Cupping is not advised for anyone taking blood thinners, with any acute injury, unmanaged blood pressure, diabetes, or hypertension. For anyone who does receive cupping, there may be distinct discoloration at cupping sites for a couple weeks.
Hot Stones are smooth, rounded stones heated to a temperature of ~120-130oF in order to provide localized heat that creates increase of blood flow to areas worked through vasodilation, and promotes deep relaxation, improved sleep quality, and softening of high tension areas for deeper work.
* Sometimes used in alternation with cold stones to provide additional support for injuries.
Cold stones are smooth, rounded stones that have been frozen and are used to provide localized cryotherapy; application of cold causes vasoconstriction which results in reduced inflammation and bloating, minor pain relief (especially for headaches, migraines, muscle spasms, or trauma related symptoms); it promotes circulation and can help decrease soreness post massage.
*Sometimes used in alternation with hot stones to provide additional support for injuries.
The use of topical CBD products in massage helps to reduce inflammation, provide temporary pain relief, and promotes relaxation and healing of tissues. CBD is a natural compound derived from cannabis; however, it does not have any psychoactive properties like THC, so there is no risk of feeling high from use of topical CBD. Effectstypically last for ~2 hours (efficacy ranging based on dosage and quality of product used).
Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils both through diffusion and topically to engage the senses and enact a wide range of specific intentions and benefits according to the needs of the client based on the properties of the individual oil and custom oil blends.
Effects can include but are not limited to: decrease in physical aches and pains, improved mood, reduced anxiety & depression, support for specific organs and organ system functions, etc.
Sound is vibration and the size of the sound waves is called the frequency. Sound therapy implements specific frequencies made by a variety of tools and instruments to stimulate both physcho-accoustic benefits to the nervous system and processes it regulates (like heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, even stress and pain signals from the brain, etc.) AND vibro-accoustic benefits which occur directly in tissues on a cellular level.
